As part of an ongoing quarter-life-crisis, I guess I'm becoming more and more obsessed with pretty underwear. It's always been my feeling that if you're the only one who sees it, then who cares what it looks like, as long as it's comfortable and fits well under clothes. But I realize now that confidence is like a fine onion... maybe a Vidalia one that doesn't make you cry as much... wait what was I saying? Ah yes, like a fine onion with many layers. If confidence is supposed to come from within, then the next closest layer is your underwear. I've found that ugly underwear can now not only ruin my day, it can ruin other people's days. It's a fractal of hatred blossoming outwards.
I found an Aussie brand that was started by two sisters inspired by B-grade horror flicks & architecture, called Hopeless Lingerie. As any self-respecting horror fan will know, *points to self* some of the Dario Argento classics such as Suspiria have scenes with amazing architecture, but also have those extra special moments of girls in their panties getting super-killed. I'll put a $20 on it that at least some of their inspiration comes from Argento.
Some of them are semi-useless for everyday wear but I have some favorites picked out that seem practical and beautifully constructed.
I've also had my eye on local brand The Lake & Stars by Nikki Dekker and Maayan Zilberman, an inspiring and stunningly creative duo. More a work of art than anything else, their most recent collection blows minds. THIS would be something Argento would be proud of. Unafraid to explore the act of ritual and cultish behaviour, Dekker and Zilberman are making a playful statement. Dark elves, anyone??
