:: Twin Peaks x Pendleton

I need to take a moment of silence here for Laura Palmer.  Twin Peaks was released on Netflix streaming recently and I decided to re-watch the series.  There are parts that I totally don't remember, or blocked out probably because I was a wee innocent one back then, full of the sweetness and wonder of the world still.  This time around I was noticing the CLOTHES.  Boatloads of Pendleton & Native American motifs galore, which *certain* people would kill for.  Also terrible things like stonewash spade-assed mom-jeans with tapered ankle which will never look good...I'm talking to you L train.

:: Savage Beauty // Alexander McQueen

I've been so busy that I haven't been able to post about this, but I finally made it to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit.  After waiting in a 30 minute line on a Wednesday afternoon, I got in.  I've seen all of the pieces before from runway shows and other places online, but I was totally unprepared for how I would feel seeing them in person and up close.  At times I was speechless, other times on the verge of tears.  The accompanying descriptions are enlightening.  If you're in NY make it a priority to go before August 7th (when it ends).

Remember that wolf from the Tex Avery cartoon whose eyes pop out when he sees a hot chick?  That's me right now at these:

Someone's paying attention out there...

These remind me of the exoskeleton of an insect or maybe the carapace of what Ripley deals with in Alien, but frankly I'm not repulsed.

by Nichole de Carle <-- btw I have no idea what's going on with their splash page and the strangely bedraggled models who look like they're still wearing shit from the night before.  I banish thee back to the underworld!

::underoos part II

As part of an ongoing quarter-life-crisis, I guess I'm becoming more and more obsessed with pretty underwear.  It's always been my feeling that if you're the only one who sees it, then who cares what it looks like, as long as it's comfortable and fits well under clothes.  But I realize now that confidence is like a fine onion... maybe a Vidalia one that doesn't make you cry as much... wait what was I saying? Ah yes, like a fine onion with many layers.  If confidence is supposed to come from within, then the next closest layer is your underwear.  I've found that ugly underwear can now not only ruin my day, it can ruin other people's days.  It's a fractal of hatred blossoming outwards.

I found an Aussie brand that was started by two sisters inspired by B-grade horror flicks & architecture, called Hopeless Lingerie.  As any self-respecting horror fan will know, *points to self* some of the Dario Argento classics such as Suspiria have scenes with amazing architecture, but also have those extra special moments of girls in their panties getting super-killed.  I'll put a $20 on it that at least some of their inspiration comes from Argento.
Some of them are semi-useless for everyday wear but I have some favorites picked out that seem practical and beautifully constructed.

I've also had my eye on local brand The Lake & Stars by Nikki Dekker and Maayan Zilberman, an inspiring and stunningly creative duo.  More a work of art than anything else, their most recent collection blows minds.  THIS would be something Argento would be proud of.  Unafraid to explore the act of ritual and cultish behaviour, Dekker and Zilberman are making a playful statement.  Dark elves, anyone??

I caved and bought this one. It's so beautiful I might even wear it with a skirt or layered under something sheer. WIN.

::By the hammer of Thor

I just saw Thor and it got me excited about wormholes again.  We were always taught in school that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line.  This is not necessarily true depending on what your definition of 'distance' is.  If you're talking about space, the shortest theoretical distance between two points would be an Einstein-Rosen Bridge; a wormhole.  Wormholes are shortcuts through space/time.  If we are able to bend space/time so that two points very very far away from each other now curve around and meet each other, then that would be the shortest distance.

I've been culling inspiration from weird places -- the unexplainable, the unattainable, and the intangible things.

Maud Traon must have experienced the same thing as me, because these rings look like stuff you would find in the aftermath of a supernova.

:: current freakout

There is a ridiculously gigantic backlog of items I haven't posted.  I used to be really adamant about not posting without having something thoughtful written about it, but that was causing some weird dread/fear of failure thing to come up and so I'd get overwhelmed and not post at all.  HEAR YE, loyal readers, I am hereby vetoing my imaginary rule.  Things are gonna change, I can feel it.

While you stare slackjawed at what I just wrote, check this outttttt:
